Knockalla Cottages Portsalon, formerly coastguard cottages, sit on an elevated site overlooking Lough Swilly with views of Knockalla Mountains to the rear in County Donegal.

Both coastal holiday cottages, Anchor Cottage Portsalon and Capstan Cottage Portsalon are known as Knockalla Cottages Portsalon and they have been sympathetically refurbished, oozing charm and character.

These two seaside holiday cottages can be rented together, sleeping 10 guests comfortably. This makes them the perfect holiday destination in Donegal for a group getaway with friend’s or family.

Anchor Cottage Portsalon Description – Sleeps 4

This self catering holiday cottage has a charming open plan kitchen, living room and dining room area. The open plan style creates the perfect atmosphere for a self catering holiday with family and friends. The cottage style kitchen is well equipped and has everything you need for a comfortable self catering holiday cottage in Donegal. A multifuel stove located in the living room creates a homely atmosphere and is perfect for relaxing after long coastal walks or adventures in the wilds of Donegal. This beautiful seaside holiday cottage also has a TV, DVD and radio.
A cottage style wooden staircase leads from the kitchen to the first floor where the bedrooms are located.

Anchor Holiday Cottage sleeps 4 guests comfortably, there is 1 double bedroom offering beautiful sea views and 1 twin bedroom plus a family bathroom. From the gable window on the first floor you can enjoy amazing views of Dunree Fort & Lighthouse.

Capstan Cottage Portsalon – Sleeps 6

Our second self catering holiday cottage is Capstan Holiday Cottage. This seaside holiday cottage has a delightful open plan kitchen, living room and dining room area. The open plan style creates the perfect atmosphere for a self catering holiday with family and friends. The cottage style kitchen is well equipped and has everything you need for a comfortable self catering holiday cottage in Donegal. A multifuel stove located in the living room creates a homely atmosphere and is perfect for relaxing after long coastal walks and adventures in the wilds of Donegal. This beautiful coastal holiday cottage in Donegal also has a TV, DVD and radio.

Capstan Cottage Portsalon sleeps 6 guests comfortably, all three bedrooms are located on the first floor. There are 2 double bedrooms providing wandering views and 1 twin bedroom plus a family bathroom.



Ample car parking is available beside the cottages. Towels and tea towels are provided free of charge. If you require a high chair and travel cot please remember to request them at the time of booking.

WIFI is available for our guests.

There is a delightful large coastal cottage garden where you and your guests can enjoy outside dining, garden games and endless sea views. From these self-catering cottages you can take time to savour the rugged Donegal scenery and fresh sea air. Please note the garden is not enclosed so children must be supervised.

No pets are allowed at Knockalla Cottages.

From the holiday cottages you are in for a treat, the views are outstanding and there are a number of breath-taking beaches within each reach dotted along the Lough Swilly coast. Scraggy Bay, a small rocky beach which has an anchorage, is conveniently located only 1 km from the holiday cottages. Ballymastocker Bay, once voted the second most beautiful beach in the world by Observer Magazine is also right on your doorstep.

IMPORTANT NOTES

1. Heating and Electricity:
This is an extra charge which is mostly payable to the Property Manager/Owner. In some cases, energy is charged at a fixed daily rate or a rate per unit on the units consumed or you are required to top up a Pre-Paid Meter while in others, energy charges are included in the rate you have paid. We advise you to check with the local Owner/ Property Manager prior to arrival how this is calculated or prior to making the booking.

2. Security Deposit:
A minimum refundable security deposit of €200 (per property) must be paid prior to check-in to your holiday home to the local Property Manager/ Owner. This is either taken over the phone by pre-authorising your credit card when you call the Property Manager to arrange your arrival time 48 hours in advance of arrival or at others it is taken on arrival. In some locations and at certain times of year this can increase to €500 per property.
